Dear PHS Family and Friends, It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I write this letter of introduction to you as your new High School Principal. I am privileged to return and become part of the PHS community, which has already given me such a warm welcome! The high school has always had a special place in my heart having served 5 years as its vice principal. Throughout much of this summer, I’ve spent much of my time relearning the school building, the school’s community and familiarizing myself with the PPS Core Values and Mission. In doing so, I’ve learned that PHS is a place where strong connections are made between home, school and the surrounding community. Truly Cardinal Strong!

Professionally, I possess over 25 years of experience in the field of education and am licensed as a Teacher, as well as Educational Leader and currently seeking my endorsement in Superintendence. Motivated by my encouraging experiences in school, I received my bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Rutgers University and spent 14 excellent years teaching at Clinton Elementary school. I went on to earn my master of education degree in school leadership from Kean University. Soon after, I decided to become an administrator based on my strong desire to have a positive impact on the entire school community. My first administrative job was as vice principal of Maxson Middle school, and I will be forever grateful for that initial opportunity.

As the parent of two children, I fully understand the challenges and rewards you face every day as you work to ensure your child has the best educational experience. One of the most important aspects of my work here at PHS will be the building of strong relationships with students, teachers, families and community members. You will find me in the hallways, classrooms and at numerous school activities that evolve the students of PHS. My passion has been and always will be the education of students! With that in mind, you can expect that I will work diligently with teachers and support staff to make sure our students are exposed to curriculum and instruction that is both rigorous and relevant. Some of my core values and beliefs are keeping health and family first, and my strong association with the philosophy of the “golden rule”. As principal, I will have an open door policy and welcome the community’s input and feedback. I am looking forward to meeting and working with the entire PHS community. In closing, I would like to ask that as a community that you “trust the process” and give us a chance to develop your child. Go CARDINALS!

Educationally yours,
Dion A. Roach, Principal
